The Corydoras Catfish, or Cory Cat, could be taken as your aquarium’s resident janitor/house keeper. It is an excellent addition to most community tanks because of their peaceful nature. As bottom dwellers, they are very Ok with cleaning up after everyone else by constantly rummaging around the bottom of the tank looking for scraps. Some things to know about Cory Catfish

Cory catfish are so small and peaceful that you wont help but fall in love with. Here’s some things to know:

  1. Virtually all Cory species should be kept in schools of at least two.
  2. Cories are known to pin away from loneliness far too commonly and may occasionally die
  3. Generally, Corys should be kept only with small to medium sized peaceful fish.
  4. They enjoy feeding on tropical fish food that will sink to the bottom such as algae wafers or shrimp pellets.
  5. Corys remain relatively small even in adulthood, hence are a darling to small aquarium owners
  6. Corys love sand bottom, this type of substrate should be a preferred choice as this species has sensitive barbells.
  7. They are often described as armored catfish, due to their plates of bone-like material running the length of their bodies.

Corydoras catfish help to clean your aquarium substrate. Therefore, they maintain water quality and should be taken aboard for two reasons:

  • Due to their smaller size, they are able to scavenge amongst plant stalks, tight corners, and

  • Most species of Corydoras are active during the day which means they are feeding when the other tankmates are feeding too. This ensures they clean up leftovers before? it begins to break down and contribute to potentially toxic ammonia levels in the aquarium water.
